Filton Avenue Nursery School recently marked the end of term with a joyful celebration in Acorns Room, where children enjoyed a vibrant fancy dress party. The event was filled with excitement as children arrived in a variety of imaginative costumes, from superheroes to princesses, each one reflecting their unique personalities and creativity.
The celebration featured games, bubbles, and balloons, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere. A highlight of the day was a special ice cream treat, which brought smiles all around and added a sweet touch to the end-of-term festivities. As part of the celebration, the nursery school also said goodbye to children moving on to preschool, recognising their growth and achievements during their time in Acorns Room.
Earlier in the year, Acorns Room launched a vegetable growing project, supported by a generous donation of seeds and tools from Filton Community Garden. Children planted and cared for a variety of vegetables, including peas and potatoes, as part of their hands-on learning experience aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
This term, the children proudly harvested their first crops and celebrated with a shared meal of roast vegetables. The dish featured their homegrown produce alongside additional vegetables kindly donated by The Children’s Kitchen. Children took an active role in the preparation process—washing, peeling, and chopping the vegetables—before watching them roast in the oven. The experience offered a meaningful opportunity to explore healthy eating, sustainability, and the rewards of nurturing growth over time.
Filton Avenue Nursery School’s end-of-term activities reflect the value of experiential learning in early years education, combining celebration, creativity, and community engagement.
