Rosemary Nursery School is delighted to share updates from both Room 1 and Room 2 as children engage in their early years learning experiences following their return to nursery.
Welcoming Our Learning Community
This week has been filled with excitement as both rooms have welcomed back returning children to their early years education setting whilst also meeting new friends who have joined our learning community. The children have settled wonderfully into their familiar routines and spaces, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere across the nursery.
Exploring Natural Learning Environments

The children have been captivated by the natural world around them, with Room 1 particularly delighted by their giant sunflowers in the garden. They have spent time observing the insects that come to settle on the flowers, providing wonderful opportunities for children to develop their understanding of nature and the natural world as part of their early years education.
Meanwhile, Room 2 has been investigating the changing weather outside and engaging in conversations about the approaching change of seasons, developing their understanding of the natural world through observation and discussion. This seasonal awareness has enhanced the children’s connection to their environment and the cyclical nature of the year.
Both rooms have been actively engaged with their allotment spaces. Room 1 has picked the last of the runner beans and raspberries, whilst Room 2 has been exploring their plot by digging out potatoes which they planted before the summer holidays. These hands-on learning experiences connect children with growing cycles, seasonal changes, and support their understanding of growing and harvesting processes.
Creative Learning and Development
Creativity has flourished across both rooms this week. Room 1 children have discovered numerous creative uses for cardboard boxes, demonstrating their imagination and problem-solving skills through open-ended play and learning activities. This type of resourceful play encourages innovative thinking and allows children to explore materials in their own unique ways.
In Room 2, children have been making birthday cakes out of clay, using fine motor skills to manipulate different clay tools. This creative activity supports both their artistic expression and physical development whilst providing tactile learning experiences. The children have also been building houses using large wooden blocks and incorporating them into their role play, developing construction skills, creativity, and social learning through collaborative play.
Mathematical Learning
Room 2 has been particularly engaged in mathematical exploration this week, with children investigating shapes and how they fit together. Many have shown particular interest in connecting magnetic shapes, and this mathematical exploration supports their understanding of spatial relationships and problem-solving skills, laying important foundations for future mathematical learning.
Learning Journals
Over the coming weeks, Rosemary Nursery School will be setting families up with Tapestry, an online learning journal where parents can observe their child’s learning and development. Families will need to have completed all relevant documentation before this can be enabled. Please speak to your key person or Magda in the office if you need any support with this process.
We look forward to continuing these exciting and engaging early years education experiences with all the children across our nursery community.
