Exploring Pumpkins in Orange Group at Redcliffe Nursery School

Nov 20, 2025

Orange Group at Redcliffe Nursery School has been exploring all things pumpkin, engaging in sensory investigations and creative activities.

Orange Group children investigated what the inside of pumpkins looked like, how they felt and how they smelled, discovering that there were so many seeds inside. This hands-on sensory exploration helped children develop their scientific curiosity and observational skills whilst experiencing the textures, sights and smells of seasonal vegetables.

The children made their own pumpkin pictures using glue and tape, coloured in pictures and made pumpkin puppets on sticks, using great scissor skills to cut them out. These creative activities supported children’s fine motor development whilst allowing them to express themselves through art and craft.

Orange Group also had great fun dancing to the skeleton dance song and five little pumpkins, combining movement with seasonal songs to develop physical coordination and rhythm whilst celebrating autumn festivities through music and dance.

These pumpkin-themed activities have provided wonderful opportunities for sensory exploration, creative expression and physical development whilst celebrating the autumn season.
