Ilminster Avenue Nursery School has held spider making workshops across Star Room, Raindrops Room and Rainbows Room, bringing families into nursery to experience the learning their children are involved in.
The spider making workshops provided an opportunity for parents to come into nursery to experience the learning their children are involved in, strengthening home-school connections and showing families the rich learning taking place every day. This term, children have been learning nursery rhymes, developing their language skills and memory through repetition and rhythm.
Families made spiders together that they can play with at home and use to retell “Incy Wincy Spider” and “Little Miss Muffet,” extending the learning beyond nursery and creating shared experiences between families and children. Learning nursery rhymes is really helpful for children to develop their vocabulary, gain confidence and develop memory skills through the engaging patterns and rhymes.
The children have explored new words such as “water spout” and “tuffet,” discovering vocabulary they might not encounter in everyday conversation. They have had fun acting out the rhymes with movement and expression, bringing the stories to life through physical play and creative interpretation.
Ilminster Avenue Nursery School loved having all the parents come to work with the children and seeing the amazing spiders that were made. The nursery hopes families enjoy playing with the spiders at home and continuing to explore these beloved nursery rhymes together.
