Green Class children at The Limes Nursery School have been exploring mark-making in foam, creating different marks and shapes whilst experimenting with movements and patterns.
The children made different marks and shapes using their hands and fingers, exploring the sensory properties of the foam whilst experimenting with different movements and patterns. This tactile experience provides a fun, messy and engaging way for children to explore making marks.
This activity supports early mark-making development and helps children understand that their actions create visible results. Using hands and fingers in the foam develops fine motor control and creative expression whilst laying important foundations that will support future writing skills.
The sensory nature of foam makes it an ideal medium for young children to experiment with mark-making in a playful, pressure-free environment where they can focus on the process and enjoyment of creating rather than the end result.
