St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School has had a wonderful last week of term, with children engaging in festive preparations, baking experiences and creative activities.
Children have been decorating their class tree, creating decorations and wrapping presents, developing fine motor skills and creativity whilst building excitement for festive celebrations. The children have also been preparing for their party, making sandwiches to share with friends, singing songs together and making party crowns to wear. These activities have brought the children together through collaborative preparation, music and creative expression whilst building anticipation for their celebration.
The children have been becoming bakers, making gingerbread men biscuits and developing important practical life skills. They have been using visual recipes to help them, following step-by-step instructions through pictures whilst building independence and understanding of sequential processes. Children have taken time to explore and play with all the ingredients, engaging with the textures, smells and properties of each component before combining them. The children have been pinching ginger, spooning flour, mixing and rolling the dough, as well as cutting out their shapes, developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through each stage of the baking process. This hands-on cooking experience teaches children about following instructions, measuring and the transformation of ingredients through baking.
St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School has had a joyful end to the term, with children developing new skills and creating happy memories together through cooking, creativity and celebration.
