Fox Room Celebrates Big Garden Birdwatch at Knowle West Nursery School

Jan 30, 2026

Fox Room at Knowle West Nursery School has been celebrating the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch this week, exploring birds and nature in their wonderful garden.

Knowle West Nursery School is fortunate to have a garden where the trees and shrubs are full of birds when the sun shines. Fox Room has read the story “A Busy Day for Birds” and children have been really interested in the different kinds of birds, learning about various species and their characteristics.

Children have made bird feeders to help ensure birds have food through the winter, developing practical skills whilst understanding how they can care for wildlife and support nature during the colder months. This hands-on conservation activity helps children recognise their role in looking after the environment and developing care for living things.

The children have been showing an interest in mark-making, creating marks in many different areas of the provision. Children have been using chalk, paint and whiteboard pens to draw and make marks in different ways, experimenting with various tools and surfaces whilst developing their fine motor control and early writing skills.

A busy day for birds, a busy day for Fox Room at Knowle West Nursery School!
