Children in Orange Room at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School have been immersed in the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” this month, bringing the narrative to life through acting, cooking, creative play and map-making.
The children enjoyed exploring the story props, acting the story out and creating a home for the bears, bringing the narrative to life through multiple forms of play and representation. They had fun making porridge during a cooking session and added oats to messy play for further exploration. The children were feeding the bears their porridge because Goldilocks had eaten it all up, extending the story into imaginative role play whilst developing nurturing behaviours and sequencing skills.
The children were also creating maps for Goldilocks to find the bear’s cottage, collaborating together whilst developing spatial awareness, problem-solving and early map-making skills as they represented a journey on paper.
These story-based experiences show how traditional tales can inspire rich learning across multiple areas, helping children develop literacy, creativity, collaboration and practical skills through meaningful, playful exploration.
