This month at St Pauls Nursery School, children have been learning through movement, curiosity, creativity and connection, with rich experiences unfolding both inside the nursery and out in the local community.
Across the nursery, children have been out and about, noticing the world around them and making sense of what they see, hear and experience. Trips to the farm and walks through the local streets have sparked conversations about road safety, buildings, machines, animals and people. Children have watched diggers at work, explored woods and green spaces, and tuned into the sounds of tractors, animals, wind and weather, building early listening skills that support communication and readiness for reading.
Back at nursery, learning has continued through hands-on exploration. Children have mixed pancake batter, explored the weight and texture of watermelon, planted beans and watched them grow, and cooked together over the fire. These shared experiences have supported cooperation, concentration and curiosity, while also encouraging children to use all their senses to investigate change, pattern and texture.
Creativity has been woven throughout the curriculum this month. Children have made music using instruments from around the world, danced with streamers in the wind, explored shadow play in the sunshine, and expressed their ideas through mark making, early writing, digital photography and collaborative storytelling. Mathematical thinking has come alive through sorting, counting, pattern making and shape play, including building with blocks and exploring tangrams.
Celebrating diversity and belonging has also been a key focus. Families and practitioners have shared Eid celebrations, stories, food, prayer and traditions, helping children to develop a strong sense of identity while learning about the cultures and communities around them. These moments of connection have reinforced the importance of children seeing their own experiences reflected and valued within nursery life.
Together, these experiences show how children at St Pauls Nursery School learn best, through meaningful relationships, real-world experiences and joyful exploration that supports confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
