Children at Little Hayes Nursery School enjoyed a special focus on dental health last term, learning all about the importance of twice-daily toothbrushing and making healthy choices to look after their teeth.
Caring for ourselves and making healthy choices is a regular part of conversations at Little Hayes, and dental health was a particular focus. The children learned about the importance of brushing their teeth twice a day and cutting down on sugary foods and drinks. As part of the children in Oak Room learning about different occupations, they were visited by two dental nurses, Jasmin and Alisa, who talked to the children about how to look after their teeth.
Jasmin and Alisa brought along some games and a sorting activity, where the children had to decide which foods were healthy and which could lead to tooth decay. The dental nurses were very impressed by how much the children already knew about looking after their teeth! This hands-on learning helped children understand the connection between the choices they make and their dental health, all in a fun and engaging way.
To support the children in continuing their healthy habits at home, every child received a goody bag containing a toothbrush and some toothpaste, kindly supplied by the local Children’s Centre. Learning experiences like this help children build the knowledge and habits that support their health and wellbeing for life.
