A new booklet from St Paul’s Nursery School: helping your child thrive at nursery

Oct 9, 2026

St Paul’s Nursery School and Children’s Centre has put together a new booklet for families, full of simple things parents and carers can do at home to help their child feel confident and ready for nursery.

The booklet starts from a reassuring point: by talking, playing, cuddling and responding to their child, parents are already doing a great deal. A child’s relationship with the people at home matters more to their development than anything else.

From there, the booklet looks at four areas that help children settle and enjoy nursery: growing independence, managing big feelings and bouncing back from upsets, making friends and playing with others, and gaining confidence with toileting. For each one, it gives a few practical ideas to try at home, such as practising putting on a coat or saying “Can I play with you?”, alongside what the St Paul’s team will be doing at nursery to help. There is also a handy checklist of what to pack.

Families can read the full booklet on the St Paul’s website: https://stpaulschildrenscentre.co.uk/2026/09/25/our-friday-message-25th-september-2026/
