Settling in at Cashmore Early Years Centre this autumn

Oct 2, 2026

Children have started and returned at Cashmore Early Years Centre this month. For the first few weeks, the priority is helping each child get to know their key people and the other children in their group.

Staff are spending this time helping children find the toys, books and spaces they need to be busy and happy. A family photo display in the setting lets children see their families every day, which helps them feel at home while they settle.

Children brush their teeth at nursery every day as part of the NHS Big Brush Club, using their own named toothbrush with support from trained Oral Health Champions. Claudia from The Children’s Kitchen is working with the children again this term, cooking healthy dishes such as vegetable couscous. Linda from Active Kids is also back to run weekly yoga sessions.

The children play in the garden whatever the weather, so wellies and an all-weather suit are useful to have. Families can borrow books from Reception and from outside the 3s room, to read together at home and bring back when they have finished.

Cashmore is also pleased to welcome Amal, who will be working across the school in different roles.

For families with younger babies, Bristol Family Hubs is running a free New Parents Group for parents of babies aged 0 to 6 months. Sessions are at Wellspring Settlement on Tuesdays from 6th October to 24th November, 10am to 11.30am, and at Bannerman Road Family Hub on Mondays from 12th October to 30th November, 1.30pm to 3pm. Booking is required by calling 0117 9223189 or emailing ECFH@bristol.gov.uk.
