Children across Filton Avenue Nursery School have been welcoming new friends, celebrating the arrival of spring and learning about different cultural traditions this month.
In Acorns Room, the team have welcomed lots of new friends, supporting them as they settle into their nursery journey whilst building relationships and creating a warm, inclusive community. The children have been enjoying being outside whatever the weather, embracing all conditions whilst developing resilience and understanding that outdoor play is valuable in rain or shine. They have been starting seeds off in the greenhouse, learning about plant growth and developing responsibility as they care for their seedlings. The children have been jumping in colourful puddles and mixing the colours, exploring colour theory through active play whilst discovering how colours combine and change. They have also been looking at the crocuses growing in the garden, observing the first signs of spring and noticing how plants emerge and develop. The children have been going for walks in the local area, noticing what’s around them and taking pictures for their local landmarks book that they can look at in the room, helping them understand their community and build connections between nursery and the wider world.
In Little Acorns, the children have been busy making chapati and enjoying tasting it as they learn about and prepare for Ramadan. Through making chapati, the children have been developing their cooking skills, measuring and mixing ingredients, watching the dough transform, and experiencing the satisfaction of creating food they can share and taste together. This hands-on cultural learning helps children appreciate and respect different traditions within the nursery community.
