This month, Redcliffe Nursery School has been full of creativity, cultural celebration and thoughtful support for children’s individual needs across the setting.
From shared projects to quieter spaces, the focus has been on helping children feel confident, included and deeply engaged in their learning.
In the Seagulls room, children returned after the break full of ideas and curiosity. Practitioners created thoughtful invitations to play, using displays and carefully chosen resources to spark interest and conversation. Photos of Lunar New Year celebrations led to children sharing their own experiences, making puppets and drawings, and working together to build a large dragon using cardboard and papier mache. The process, collaboration and pride in the finished creation mattered far more than how it looked, supporting communication, creativity and sustained shared thinking. Alongside this, children explored painting, block play, imaginative games, Ramadan and preparations for Eid, as well as noticing seasonal changes in the garden as birds and insects returned.
Children across the nursery have also benefited from spaces that meet different emotional and sensory needs. The Rainbow Room and library have been used more widely this month, offering calmer environments during busy parts of the day. In Blackbirds, the sensory room has been refreshed to create a more soothing space for quiet play and rest, while cosy reading areas have supported children’s love of books and stories. Cultural learning continued through celebrations of Lunar New Year, Ramadan and Eid, with songs, stories and creative activities helping children make meaningful connections to their own lives and the wider world.
Forest trips have been another highlight this month. Key groups have enjoyed longer visits, sharing packed lunches outdoors, singing together on the journey and exploring nature through climbing, balancing and den building. These experiences support children’s physical development, confidence and independence, while building a strong sense of belonging and teamwork.
Across Redcliffe Nursery School, this month has shown how rich learning grows from children’s interests, inclusive practice and strong relationships with families, helping children develop the skills, curiosity and resilience they need for the next stage of their learning journey.
