Children at St Pauls Nursery School are experiencing a curriculum full of challenging projects and interesting tools this month, from out-and-about city trips to creative work with an artist-in-residence and exploration in a new music room.
Out-and-about experiences in the city and on the bus are an important part of learning at St Pauls, sparking talk, curiosity and connections. The nursery’s curriculum is guided by the principle that learning is “inside the child and outside the window,” recognising that children’s experiences in the wider world are essential to their development and understanding.
Art and creativity are supported by artist-in-residence Rhea, who works with children on claying and provides amazing opportunities in the cabin with blocks, loose parts and light projectors. These creative experiences help children develop their imagination, fine motor skills and artistic expression whilst exploring materials in innovative ways.
Words and music are supported by an amazing library full of beautiful books by favourite authors, giving children access to rich stories and language. The new music room is full of bells, shakers, piano keyboards and new Djembe drums, providing exciting opportunities for children to explore sound, rhythm and musical expression.
These varied curriculum experiences show how St Pauls provides rich, multi-faceted learning opportunities that connect children with their city, develop creativity through expert guidance, and build language and musical skills through high-quality resources and meaningful experiences.
