Term 4 at St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School has been a truly joyful one, packed with celebrations, creativity and important learning about the world around us through Easter and Eid.
Easter brought a wonderful focus on pattern, with children decorating eggs and making collages using different shapes of paper, exploring wiggly lines, spots, stripes and so much more. The children had brilliant conversations about the kinds of creatures that hatch from eggs, and both chicks and dinosaurs featured heavily in their imaginations! Chocolate Easter nests were made for the chicks to live in, and at the end of term, the children headed out into the garden for an Easter egg hunt, carefully counting how many eggs they each collected.
Eid was celebrated in equally brilliant style, with Oak Class and Fir Class coming together for a joint party. The children enjoyed party food, including wonderful Indian sweet treats from Easton, danced to music and learned to say Eid Mubarak. In the lead-up to the celebrations, the children looked at photographs and read books about Islam, and made beautiful Eid cards with collage work on moon-shaped cards. It was a really meaningful and joyful way to mark such a special occasion.
These celebrations help children understand and respect different cultural and religious traditions whilst developing creativity, mathematical thinking through counting and pattern work, and a sense of belonging within a diverse community.
