A new term begins at St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School

Oct 2, 2026

New children and families have joined St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School this month, and returning children are back too. They are making new friends and getting to know their key person.

Children start gradually, so each one gets more individual attention while they settle. Parents and carers stay with their child during this time, because children settle more quickly when they see their family in the room with them. Every class also has a family photo board, so children can see and talk about the people at home.

St Philip’s Marsh has joined the NHS Big Brush Club. Children now brush their teeth every day at nursery, with their own toothbrush and support from trained Oral Health Champions. Claudia from The Children’s Kitchen, a city-wide project that gets children cooking, growing and eating fresh food, is back working with the children too, and vegetable couscous is first on the menu. Linda from Active Kids is also returning to run weekly yoga sessions, where children try out new poses and learn how their bodies move.

Children go out into the garden in all weathers, so wellies and waterproofs get plenty of use. The school library in the foyer is open, and families can borrow books to read together at home.

The team is also pleased to welcome Amal, who will be working across the school in different roles this year.
