Redcliffe Nursery School children recently enjoyed visiting Paradise Bottom in Leigh Woods.
A Natural Learning Environment
The area provided a wonderful sensory experience with loads of bluebells, wild garlic and birdsong creating a peaceful space for the children to explore. Walking through the stream proved particularly exciting, and the children were delighted to find freshwater shrimps in the water.
The children demonstrated excellent listening and observation skills, identifying eleven different bird species during their visit including wren, nuthatch, great tit, chaffinch, coal tit, and goldcrest.
The Importance of Outdoor Adventures
These wild woodland adventures are fundamental to Redcliffe Nursery School’s early years curriculum, directly supporting children’s development across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Outdoor experiences like these develop children’s physical skills, communication and language through shared discoveries, mathematical understanding through counting and comparing, and personal, social and emotional development through collaborative exploration. They also foster children’s knowledge of the world whilst nurturing their expressive arts and design through creative responses to natural materials and environments.
These woodland adventures continue to be an essential part of Redcliffe Nursery School’s commitment to providing rich, meaningful outdoor learning experiences that inspire curiosity and develop children’s connection with the natural world.
