Speedwell Nursery School has been welcoming children back for the autumn term, with both Wren Room and Owl Room settling beautifully into their learning environments.
Building Relationships and Key Groups
Both rooms have been busy re-settling returning children and welcoming new children and their families. The children have been finding out which key groups they are in, using visual registers, songs and games to learn the names of the children and adults in their groups. Wren Room children are discovering whether they are in the yellow or green group, whilst Owl Room children are finding out if they belong to purple, green or blue group.
Both rooms are creating family boards where children can share their family photos and talk about the important people in their lives. It has been amazing to see how well the children are settling and exploring their learning environments.
Exploring Autumn’s Changes
The children have been exploring the garden and noticing seasonal changes as autumn arrives. These outdoor experiences support children’s understanding of the natural world and provide rich opportunities for observation and discussion about the changing seasons.
Stories, Rhymes and Language Development
Both rooms are revisiting traditional nursery rhymes using books, puppets and props. The core books this term focus on feelings, separation, making friends and starting school. Daily story times allow children to develop their listening skills, and they will be learning to retell stories using story maps and props.
Each child has a book bag and the opportunity to borrow books every Wednesday to share at home, supporting language development and fostering a love of reading.
Speedwell Nursery School looks forward to continuing these engaging learning experiences throughout the term as children grow in confidence and curiosity about the world around them.
