Hartcliffe Nursery School is delighted to introduce Oak Room, a dedicated inclusive space designed to meet the diverse and individual needs of all children within the nursery.
Inclusion is at the heart of Oak Room. The space has been created to be accessible and welcoming to all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, speech and language delays, sensory needs, or those requiring social and emotional support. Rather than being a space of separation, Oak Room supports equity by ensuring that all children, regardless of background or ability, have access to appropriate resources and experiences that foster their growth.
Oak Room allows practitioners to deliver highly personalised support, whether through one-to-one sessions or small group work. Resources such as visual aids, sensory tools, communication boards and calm areas have been thoughtfully chosen to help meet individual needs. Activities are planned with a focus on each child’s unique interests and strengths, ensuring engagement and meaningful progress. Staff use provision mapping as a strategic tool to identify, monitor and evaluate the support provided, ensuring that interventions are inclusive, targeted and evidence-based.
The room supports children’s emotional regulation, confidence and social development by providing a calm, predictable and responsive environment. Children are given space and time to explore, express themselves and develop secure relationships with trusted adults. Having a dedicated space for focused observation and assessment helps practitioners identify emerging needs early and plan timely, targeted support. Oak Room also supports close collaboration with families, external agencies and specialists, strengthening the impact of interventions and promoting continuity of care.
Oak Room represents a significant development in Hartcliffe Nursery School’s inclusive provision, providing a safe and supportive space where children’s individual needs are recognised, respected and met.
