Rich Learning Experiences in Oak Room at St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School

Nov 17, 2025

Oak Room at St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School has been full of rich experiences and joyful learning this term, with children settling into their key groups and exploring autumn’s treasures.

The children have been settling into their key groups, building friendships and developing a strong sense of belonging. This important aspect of personal, social and emotional development helps children feel secure and confident in their learning environment whilst forming meaningful relationships with their peers and adults.

The garden has been a hub of exploration, with children observing seasonal changes as leaves turn colour and fall. They have collected natural treasures like conkers, acorns, pinecones, leaves and sticks, which have sparked imaginative play in the mud kitchen. Autumn colours have inspired creative painting activities, including the use of spray bottles to experiment with texture and technique, allowing children to express themselves whilst developing their fine motor skills.

Pumpkin is the vegetable of the month, and Claudia from The Children’s Kitchen has been working with the three- and four-year-olds to explore it in fun and engaging ways. Recently, the children had the opportunity to taste roasted butternut squash, encouraging curiosity about food and healthy eating whilst broadening their experiences with different vegetables.

Physical development has also been a focus, with children showing a keen interest in organising and participating in competitive sports games. From running races to beanbag target practice and basketball, they are not only developing coordination and motor skills but also learning about teamwork and leadership through active play.

St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School looks forward to continuing these engaging learning experiences with Oak Room children throughout the term.
