Rosemary Nursery School children have continued to be inspired by their core book “Whatever Next” by Jill Murphy, with Baby Bear’s space adventure capturing their imaginations across both classes.
Class 1 children have drawn the moon, stars and planets, as well as rockets and astronauts, using different mediums such as chalk and paint for two-dimensional pictures and junk modelling, string and tape for three-dimensional representations. This exploration across different materials and dimensions helps children understand how the same subject can be represented in various ways whilst developing their artistic techniques and spatial awareness. The children’s work has inspired a display where all their creations can be shared and enjoyed by everyone who comes into the classroom, creating a celebration of their creativity and a sense of pride in their achievements. Class 1 has gone a bit space-mad!
Class 2 has been reading “Whatever Next” and acting out the story using props, bringing Baby Bear’s adventure to life through imaginative play. This active engagement with the narrative helps children develop comprehension and storytelling skills whilst building confidence in recreating familiar stories. The children have also been exploring the texture of clay, mixing it with water and creating clay paint, discovering how this material transforms and changes properties when liquid is added. Children have been using paint to make marks in different ways, experimenting with various tools and techniques to create different effects whilst developing artistic expression and fine motor control. Both classes have been welcoming new children and families and supporting them to settle into nursery, creating a warm and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and valued as they begin their early years journey.
Rosemary Nursery School looks forward to continuing these creative space explorations inspired by “Whatever Next” in the coming weeks.
