Exploring Juicy Strawberries: A Week of Discovery in Green Class at The Limes

Jun 11, 2026

Green Class at The Limes Nursery School has enjoyed a week full of strawberry discoveries, inspired by their core book The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear.

The story sparked children’s curiosity and led to a range of hands-on experiences with real strawberries. The children spent time carefully exploring the fruit using their senses, comparing sizes and weights and talking about which strawberries felt heavier or looked bigger. These mathematical comparisons supported early understanding of measure and comparison. As they handled the fruit, children developed their descriptive language, noticing the bright red colour, the tiny seeds on the outside, and the soft, juicy texture.

Tasting was a highlight of the week, with children confidently trying the strawberries and sharing their thoughts about the flavour and texture. These shared experiences encouraged communication and conversation, as well as supporting personal, social and emotional development as children took turns, explored new foods together and celebrated each other’s discoveries.

This engaging exploration helped bring the story to life, deepening children’s understanding through real, sensory experiences and supporting their natural curiosity about the world around them.
