The Limes Nursery School has made the most of recent warm weather, with children across all rooms enjoying outdoor learning, physical activities and some wonderfully special moments.
In Willow Room, children have been making the most of the lovely weather with lots of physical, outdoor mark-making activities. The children have been creating marks in wet sand, experimenting with paint sticks on rolls of paper and getting creative with chalk on the floor — all wonderful ways to build the physical control and coordination needed for early writing. These large-scale, sensory experiences give children the freedom to explore mark making in a way that feels genuinely fun and expressive. The children have also been developing their physical skills through elaborate water play, using guttering and a variety of different-sized vessels for pouring, experimenting with how water flows and moves to build coordination, concentration and problem-solving skills.
Red Class has had a memorable and memorable week in the sunshine. The children have been thinking about how to stay safe in hot weather, with the highlight being enjoying ice lollies in the garden and splashing around in a paddling pool — very well-deserved treats in the sunshine! The week also included a wonderful visit from a police officer, as part of the children’s learning about people who help communities. The police officer talked to the children about his job and read them their core book, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, which was a truly special moment that the children absolutely loved.
In Green Class, the week has been brilliantly busy, with shape taking centre stage alongside wonderful outdoor fun. The children have been exploring shape through a range of activities, developing their early mathematical thinking in ways that feel exciting and hands-on. Art has also been a big focus, giving children plenty of opportunities to express themselves creatively, and the parachute games in the garden have been a real highlight, with lots of laughter, teamwork and big physical movement.
