Children in Class 2 at Rosemary Nursery School have been finding maths all around them this term, from counting cups of flour to sorting freshly dug potatoes by size.
Bread baking gave children the chance to count cups of flour and see the difference between a half cup and a full one, as they measured each ingredient and followed the steps in order. At the water station, they guessed how many scoops it would take to fill a jug before it overflowed, then tested their predictions.
Out in the garden, children harvested potatoes and compared them, working out which were the biggest and smallest and putting them in order. Indoors, they used magnetic shapes to see how flat shapes can join together to make 3D structures. At group time, they talked about squares, rectangles, triangles and circles, and what makes each shape different.
The team is looking forward to building on these maths skills next term.
