Clay Training Across Three Bristol Nursery Schools

Dec 5, 2025

Staff from The Limes Nursery School, Rosemary Nursery School and St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School came together on Friday to attend training led by Pete Moorhouse on clay.

Staff had an opportunity to learn more about how clay can be used with children in a variety of different ways and the benefits of doing this. The training explored the rich creative possibilities that clay offers for children’s learning and development.

During the session, staff explored making patterns using a variety of everyday things, painted with clay, made pictures with it and created three-dimensional models. They also learned the best ways to store clay to ensure it remains ready for children to use. This hands-on training helped staff develop their understanding of clay as a versatile creative medium.

The three nursery schools are hoping to inspire children in their use of clay as a way of expressing themselves and being creative. Clay offers wonderful opportunities for children to develop their fine motor skills, creativity and three-dimensional thinking whilst exploring this natural, tactile material in open-ended ways.

This collaborative training demonstrates the commitment of The Limes Nursery School, Rosemary Nursery School and St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School to providing high-quality early years experiences and continuing professional development for their staff teams.
