This month, Ilminster Avenue Nursery School welcomed parents and carers into the Star Room for a learning‑through‑play afternoon that celebrated children’s everyday learning.
Families were invited to join in with simple games alongside their child, giving a real insight into how play supports development across the Early Years Foundation Stage.
During the afternoon, children at Ilminster Avenue Nursery School shared the games and routines they have been exploring in the Star Room. Playing together gave families the chance to see how children practise taking turns, waiting, sharing and joining in with others, all key parts of personal, social and emotional development. The games also supported early mathematical thinking, with children recognising groups on dice, matching objects and moving counters carefully as they played.
Experiences like these help families understand how much learning is woven into play at nursery. By welcoming parents and carers into the setting this month, Ilminster Avenue Nursery School strengthened the partnership between home and school, supporting children to feel confident, capable and proud of their learning.
