Children in Acorns Room at Filton Avenue Nursery School have been sowing sunflower and carrot seeds this month, developing curiosity and understanding about growth and change over time.
After planting the seeds, the children were keen to water them regularly and check to see if they were growing. This hands-on experience helps children develop observation skills as they watch for the first signs of growth, whilst also building a sense of responsibility and patience as they care for their seeds day by day.
These planting activities encourage children to ask questions about the natural world, notice changes over time, and understand that plants need care and attention to grow. Through nurturing their seeds, children are developing important skills in caring for living things whilst building a connection with nature and the growing process.
