As the year draws to a close, children in Blackbirds and Seagulls at Redcliffe Nursery School have been flourishing, growing in confidence and enjoying a busy summer term full of creativity, exploration and celebration.
The year was celebrated in style with a wonderful end-of-year celebration event, where families came together to enjoy drumming from Rubba, face painting from Cat and a story from Andy. It was lovely to see so many families come together to mark the occasion.
In Blackbirds, children have made real progress with their personal, social and emotional development, developing a genuine sense of belonging at nursery. They have enjoyed whole-body art, stomping on paint-covered bubble wrap to create large-scale splodges and making watercolour paintings inspired by natural materials. Everyday moments like cutting fruit at snack time have become rich opportunities to explore mathematics – counting, talking about shape and size, and discovering concepts like half and whole. The children have also enjoyed spreading butter on their toast and exploring shape through construction and tangrams.
In Seagulls, the summer term has been full of magical little moments, with the team watching proudly as children have grown so independent and confident. Water flow investigations with colanders, jugs and guttering have been popular, alongside relaxing with books on new bean bags in the sunshine. Block play has been a strong interest, with children creating imaginative structures – tall towers, cosy houses and bridges to cross the “lava” – and using blocks featuring photographs of their new schools to help them make connections with their upcoming transitions. Creating and making has flourished too, with superhero mask templates, bead threading for fine motor skills, joyful music and dancing, sensory play and even a Big Brush Club pilot to encourage healthy toothbrushing habits.
Throughout the hot weather, both rooms have found lovely ways to keep cool, exploring ice, playing with water and reading stories in the shade of the trees. Redcliffe thanks all families for choosing the nursery and placing their trust in the team. To the children moving on to primary school, the nursery wishes them all the best and hopes they continue to be confident, curious explorers. To those returning in September, the team looks forward to welcoming them back after a lovely summer.
