St Paul’s Nursery School and Children’s Centre is delighted to share its collection of Core Books videos on YouTube, bringing beloved stories to life for children and families to enjoy at home.
Core Books are an essential part of how children learn to read. They are a set of books that children read again and again and come to know really well. This repetition helps children become familiar and confident with storybook language, so they can retell and reenact the stories, characters and words — all wonderful preparation for learning to read. When children know a story deeply, they can join in, predict what comes next and eventually tell the story themselves, building the strong foundations that support reading and a lifelong love of books.
The Core Books video collection includes some wonderful favourites, with Becky reading We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Nicky reading Duck in the Truck and Amber reading Shark in the Park. Watching these stories being read by familiar faces is a lovely way for children to enjoy their favourite books at home, hear the rhythm and repetition of the language, and continue their learning journey beyond nursery. Families are warmly encouraged to explore the videos together.
