Children at St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School have settled into the new term with plenty of painting, climbing, balancing and music across Elm Room and Oak Class.
In Elm Room, children have been making marks with pens, chalk, paint and dry-wipe boards, trying out different tools and surfaces and building the hand control they will later use for writing. They have sorted colours with tweezers, which takes careful fingers and good hand-eye coordination. For bigger movements, there have been obstacle courses with stepping stones, ramps and bridges to balance along. Music time centres on the instrument bag. Children wait for their turn, listen while friends play and sing “Here’s our instrument bag, here’s our instrument bag, what’s inside, what’s inside?” as they guess who will go next.
Oak Class has been getting to know new key people, catching up with old friends and making new ones. The sunny September meant lots of time in the garden, where the bikes have been very popular, with children steering around each other, and the climbing frame has given them plenty to challenge themselves on. Children showed an interest in painting unusual objects, so the team set up more chances to experiment with different materials, colours and techniques. They have also been helping to tidy and clean up afterwards, working together to put things back.
