Rosemary Nursery School has been engaging children in rich learning experiences this week, from storytelling and celebrations to colour exploration and cultural understanding.
Both rooms have been focusing on their core book, “Shark in the Park” by Nick Sharratt. This repeated reading approach helps children become familiar with language patterns and predictable text whilst building their confidence with storytelling. The children in Room 1 have particularly enjoyed being the main character, looking through the telescope, and acting out the story in the small world area, bringing the narrative to life through role-play and imaginative re-enactment. This active engagement with the story supports children’s comprehension and allows them to explore the narrative from different perspectives whilst developing their communication skills and creative expression.
Room 2 has been learning about and celebrating Diwali by reading the story of Rama and Sita and making clay Diya lamps. This hands-on experience has helped children understand the significance of the Festival of Lights whilst developing their fine motor skills through shaping and creating their own lamps to take home. The children have also been investigating colour mixing using different coloured water, discovering how primary colours combine to create new shades whilst exploring cause and effect through experimentation.
Rosemary Nursery School continues to celebrate Black History Month with Room 2, using small world people to celebrate differences. These diverse learning experiences support children’s understanding of the world around them whilst fostering creativity, curiosity and respect for others.
